The medieval village of Gratteri

Gratteri is a charming medieval village nestled in the heart of the Madonie Mountains, just a few kilometres from Cefalù – a must-see for anyone wishing to spend a day of serenity and folklore. Gratteri’s origins date back to the Norman period, a historical and artistic period of which many traces remain, and today it still retains its medieval structure. One of Gratteri’s main attractions is the Mother Church of San Michele Arcangelo, with its imposing bell tower and ornate interior. In addition to its artistic and cultural heritage, Gratteri also boasts a wonderful natural setting, characteristic of north-eastern Sicily. Its location offers the possibility of scenic excursions, with trails winding through the mountains and offering spectacular views of the coast. Among the most characteristic places in the surroundings is the natural cave Grotta Grattara. It is located about 300 metres away from the town of Gratteri, at an altitude of over 1000 metres, making it one of the highest points in the area. For this reason, it is a panoramic point of extreme beauty, from which it is possible to admire a landscape that is nothing short of spectacular. For those seeking a corner of Sicily off the beaten track, Gratteri offers an authentic experience that invites one to discover the true essence of rural Sicily.
