Taormina and Castelmola
If you have decided to go on holiday in Sicily this summer, you should know that there are some destinations that it would be a real shame not to visit. Among these, the famous Taormina is one of those that can offer you more in terms of scenic beauty, culture, hospitality and beaches.
Taormina is located in the province of Messina and is famous mainly for its ancient theatre and for the beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters that bathe it. Located 200 meters above sea level, on a terrace of Mount Taurus, you will be amazed by its breathtaking views!
First of all, it will be a must to take some time to visit the famous ancient theatre, built in the Roman era and located in a panoramic point, from where you can admire the Etna volcano. The Theatre is home to events and shows such as the Taormina Film Festival, an international festival held annually and in which artists and directors take part.
Passing to the sea, it is impossible not to mention the charming Isolabella, one of the jewels a few steps from the city of Taormina. It is a nature reserve, an islet connected to the mainland by a tongue of sand that disappears and reappears according to the rhythm of the sea water.
Those looking for an even more authentic experience, can find what they are looking for within a short distance from Taormina. Here you will find a small village called Castelmola, defined “one of the most beautiful villages in Italy“. Located on top of a mountain at 500 meters altitude, it offers a breathtaking view, from the beautiful beach of Giardini Naxos to reach the Calabra Coast!
Here you can stroll through the streets of the old town and taste some typical delicacies, such as the traditional almond wine, to be enjoyed together with biscuits called “piparelle”. If you still have time, you can stop to visit the characteristic “bar Turrisi”.
